Historic Sampler Lecture and Display

Join Susan and Sally for a wonderful evening of history. This “new” vintage sampler lecture will feature many rare samplers brought over from Europe that are over 300 years old and never seen in this country.

We’ll explore “Marken” samplers from the Netherlands, Map history, samples of 1800’s Schoolgirl samplers which featuring hemming, pleating, darning, buttonholes, and actual pages from their notebooks that include original smocking plates.

Beautiful “Darning” samplers from Germany…one dated 1817. Sally will go over “conservation framing” with new examples of ones just taken apart.

We’ll have our two “stitching ladies” SIBBEL (1735) and ANN HICKS (1820) on display…Sibbel’s book “A Journey with Sibbel” that Susan and Sally will be happy to autograph your copy and information on Ann’s monthly club.

There will be a new sampler journey, to join, with a young girl born in England and relocated to a life in the United States of America. She had begun her sampler in Europe, at an early age. You will learn how traveling to a new country added differences in the outcome of her work.

You’ll receive a notebook of wonderful information…lots new, but some repeat information from our last lecture.

Since our last lecture, Susan and Sally have toured the DeWitt Wallace collection of samplers, visited Italy and studied in Germany and Denmark. Soooo much to share with you. Our collection of rare and historical samplers is very impressive and you won’t want to miss this opportunity to share in this mini-museum study and lecture.

Needle Lecture

Join Susan Greening Davis for this historic lecture on needles. The “Needle” is our greatest tool that we use in needlework and its history is amazing! Plus, it’s vital that you use the proper needle with the correct thread to achieve your best results. Did you ever wonder why we switch between numbers on needles or the difference between sharps and tapestry? Wonder why your thread shreds or needle won’t thread???

You’ll receive a wonderful spiral booklet full of history, uses, and actual samples of different needles that will be given out during lecture to attach to your pages in the correct category. There is also a wonderful display of vintage needles, needle-books, and antique needle cards! PLUS: Sally has crochet a wonderful “needle-card” for each of you attending.

I hope all of you are well. I’ve been to Alaska with my widowed brother, Bobby…(that was quite the adventure). I traveled with Karen (our Long-Arm Quilter) to Maine to visit two of our snowbird customers, Marie and Pat and now I’m off on our tour of Denmark with best buddy…Susan Greening Davis to study “Hedebo Embroidery” and study at several museums. We’re re-visiting Eschwege, Germany next year for Schwalm Whitework studies….plus many retreats…St. Augustine, Treasure Island, Mackinac Island, Shipshewana, Myrtle Beach, and a few in the planning stages…I’m usually at the shop stitching on Wednesdays at our “Sit-N-Stitch” from 10:00 till 4:00…come join me…Hugs and Thanks, Sally
